It took me almost 2 days to get my head around it. And words are still failing me. Hence this rather incoherent rant.
(WTF) was he thinking? Hold that, he doesn't, greed has completely taken over what little brain he had to start with. If any.
It makes me sick every day when I check the news and find out that he's found new ways to publicly humiliate us. And the latest makes appointing The Menace or making the team look like striped bananas seem like fun pranks.
And since he always finds ways to add insult injury he then sends out DelBoy to totally take the piss with that interview. I mean, challenging the fans to support their team to get out of the mess FatMan and his cronies got us into in the first place?
We're not gonna make any money from this. And if he thinks any big-time company (concern is the proper word here) will follow the example and actually pay real money to have their name ridiculed @ St. James' Park (it would have been hard finding sponsors in the PL but Championship?) he's even more stupid than I thought. Unlike Chelsea, who might be able to attract a big name with big money, we'll most likely end up with something even more stupid than the current crap. And yes, with our luck that's entirely possible.
This must be the worst advertising idea ever since advertising was invented.
And I'd love to see one fan who reckons a jumbo screen is what the stadium (and the club needs).
What worries me more, this stupid name is up till end of the season in the hope of finding a taker for next season. That could only mean he's planning to stay. Even if we go up? As in - there's no light, only tunnel?
And of course none of the £20 million allegedly put into the club is used for buying players. Despite DelBoy's claims that the muppets would totally back the manager (déjà entendu, anyone?) we will not see the improvements needed to take us back up. As long as Hughton keeps his mouth shut, gets results, appeases the fans and holds the team together he might be allowed to make a list of players he reckons are useful, and then FatMan has the final say.
Th@ f@ tw@ is the worst th@ has ever happend, and continues to happen, to us. And promoted or not, we're gonna be stuck with him for a while I'm afraid. I just wish there was a way to shield the mind and emotions from future injury by idiot owner because I can't turn my back on the club.
Yet?

O Captain my Captain! our fearful trip is not done

Happy birthday Smudge. I love your spirit, and tenacity, and commitment, and your crunching tackles (if often they come with coloured cards), and your many barmy barnets, (and your abs :) .. and even tho I've almost given up hope that you'll ever score another goal, I'm glad you're leading the line. In these dark days (particularly today) you're a shining example for the things that are good about our club (the precious few).

Carte blanche
I missed the first 5 minutes of Saturday's frustration fest and thus Smudger's carton jaune. Reading the match report later I found out that he actually didn't do anything to deserve it (for a change :) and the ref admitted as much.
“I don’t know how it was a booking – I just put it back to where it was.The referee said to me at half time, ‘I won’t book you for anything you do in the second half, because it’s not a booking’.
Having been given carte blanche, why didn't he take advantage of it? And would the ref really have let him get away with anything?
We'll never know.

Christ! take over job
I'm not sure what to make of it.
While I do think Christ! Hughton has been "performing admirably" given the muppets he works for and the daily trials and tribulations, I think offering him the job permanently (which, as we all know, in Newcastle terms means nothing) is a just sign that FatMan is here to stay until at least end of the season. And that's contrary to rumours that he's - again- lowered the price and "publicly challenged Barry Moat" to show him to money. All of £80million. I guess Bazza will wait until he gets it for 50. Quid.
What worries me are these two quotes straight from the ass' mouth: "I never said I was an expert in football clubs. I tried my best. But I accept my best was woefully short."...
“But if I keep the club, I will have the final say on players.”
Where all that circus will find us once it's over no one knows* (I have a pretty good idea but won't jinx anything by writing it out loud.)
So reversely, the more things stay the same, the more they change?
*and that's not even doubting Chris Hughton is the man to take us back up..

Where are they now?
Browsing footie pages today I was being reminded of a few former favourites that got away.
Olivier Bernard (aka MMO - My Man Ollie) has turned 30 today. Bon annif mon p'tit. I used to love him (still vividly remember his very first appearance in the Intertoto Cup (don't remember who against tho :). I loved him from the very start, chunky, tough, tenacious little bugger, and I was totally dischuffed when he left over contract issues. Was happy at first when he came back but he wasn't the same anymore. Read somehwhere that he hung up his boots in 2007 and planned to open a coffee shop. In Newcastle. Had to check out whether he actually did and found that, in 2008, he was allegedly training with Toronto FC and his old mate Larry Bob who had completely slipped my radar and had, after Toronto, briefly played for Larissa where he joined spinnin' Nik the Greek who now captains the club.. and Nobby who left the Greeks to return to the land of Paddington Bear to play for Universitario de Deportes and who will, later today, make his last appearance for his country, a feat pretty much in St. Shay of Given's distant future seeing that he's made it a ton of caps today.
Taking a trip down memory lane I can say that I have mostly fond memories of them all (even tho Larry Bob was somewhat frustrating at times) and wish there was a cloning device that would allow us get copies of them in their prime (or in Shay's case, just a copy).
